SPCA Pet Insurance is an insurance brand committed to helping pet owners build a stronger bond with their pets by providing pet insurance to help cover some of the cost of vet bills. We are an official partner of the New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and a portion of first-years premiums will go to support the great work of SPCA.

If you change your mind within 30 days of applying, you’ll get a full refund of any premiums you’ve paid (as long as you haven’t made a claim). You can still cancel your policy any time after 30 days, however if you pay your premium on a fortnightly or monthly basis, you won’t receive a refund of any premiums after this time. Where you pay your premium on an annual basis, we will refund your annual premium less a pro-rata amount covering the period your pet was insured for.

The decision is up to you. We offer pet insurance from 8 weeks of age and as most puppies and kittens are generally healthy, taking out cover early means that you don't need to worry about pre-existing conditions being excluded.

Pet insurance covers up to 90% of eligible vet bills¹, which can include consultation, blood tests or imaging, surgeries, medications, and more. You should always read the Policy Document to find out exactly what’s covered under any policy and any applicable excesses.

Most pet insurance providers won’t ask about your pet’s living environment. It’s generally assumed that most pets will spend time both indoors and outdoors, so this won’t affect your premiums.

Yes, your pet is eligible for all three levels of cover if your pet is below 9 years of age. If they are over 9 years of age they will still be eligible for two of our levels of cover.

Yes, most policies cover you for boarding fees for emergency situations. This includes if you are hospitalised or require emergency accommodation due to family violence. However, there may be limits to how much you can claim per year on these costs.
